Clinical Information system (CIS) is an integral component of the Hospital Information System involves the direct interaction of doctors and nurses with the system for data entry and retrieval, pertaining to all activities directly related to patient care.

The success of a CIS depends on its integration in the complex HIS organizational environment with a common computerized patient record (CPR) and on ensuring that it is used effectively. When the implementation of CIS interferes with traditional practice routines (Which doctors and nurses are accustomed to), and fails to provide direct benefits to the users, the system is not likely to be accepted by doctors and nurses, though they know that CIS provides major benefits by facilitating direct support of high quality patient care.

Clinical information system create an electronic computerization patient record (CPR) that facilitates the reporting, organization and location of patient data and real-time computerization charting care plans and medications using bedside terminals or terminals at Nursing Stations.
