Wikis till date cater to the need for top down structured information and while this kind of information has its own utility it is not very useful in meeting day to day problem solving needs.

On the other hand, for problem solving we may at times derive benefit listening to bottom up conversations on particular issues. We need to have wikis that document such conversations (typically found in email discussion lists). We need to incorporate unstructured conversations into the traditional wiki structure.

Actually mixing the two (top down structured theory and bottom up evolving conversation) can serve as an enriching contrast conducive to better learning.

Hence the need for mailing lists to be linked to our health informatics wiki.
